Water Baptism

Water baptism is a command of God. It is an outward sign to the world and those around us of the inward change that came into our life when we received Christ as our Savior. Baptism is a public proclamation that you now belong to the family of God.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
-Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

Water baptism says: (1) You are severing your relationship with the ungodly ways of the world. (2) You will live according to the New Covenant of the Lord Jesus Christ. (3) You are a disciple of Jesus Christ.

“Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.”
-Romans 6:3-5 (NLT)

Baptism means to immerse or dip. It means to “whelm,” to cover wholly with fluid. Baptism is a representation of the death, burial and resurrection in your life. As you are lowered into the water, this signifies that the old sinful you has died with Christ. As you are raised out of the water, this signifies that you have been resurrected to new life in Christ Jesus. If you have surrendered your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and have repented of your sins, then you need to obey the command of Jesus and be water baptized.
